Leading EU Anti-Corruption Projects to Speak at Kyoto University Symposium


On July 19, 2025, two prominent Horizon Europe projects, BridgeGap and RESPOND, will participate in “Anti-Corruption Revisited: Institutions, Integrity, and Global Change,” a symposium held at Kyoto University. This global discussion will convene experts discussing the landscape of anti-corruption efforts worldwide.


BridgeGap, a project dedicated to bridging gaps in evidence, regulation, and the impact of anti-corruption policies, will be represented by Lucio Picci and Denisse Rodriguez Olivari. Fernanda Odilla will be in attendance from the RESPOND project, which focuses on new approaches to combat political corruption in digital societies.

The symposium’s program features key contributions from these projects:

• “Digitalising Anti-Corruption: Opportunities and Risks” will include a main presentation by Fernanda Odilla (University of Bologna) titled “Digitalising Anti-Corruption: Global Trends and Challenges.”


• The “Rethinking Integrity, Institutions, and Accountability” roundtable will feature Denisse Rodriguez-Olivari (University of Glasgow) discussing “Integrity Management Systems”.


• Fernanda Odilla will chair the “Self-Regulation and the Political Ethics Dilemma”session, with Denisse Rodriguez-Olivari participating as a discussant.


• In the “Reversals in Enforcement: Extraterritorial Limits and Global Trends” session Lucio Picci (University of Bologna) will deliver a main presentation titled “Making Bribery Profitable Again? The Market Effects of Halting Extraterritorial Accountability for Overseas Bribery.”


The event is organized by Kyoto University, The University of Osaka, and Nagashima Ohno & Tsunematsu, and will be conducted entirely in English.
